Remey’s Inspirations 08

A little sidewalk cafe moment. Sipping on a London fog between weekend activities.

Hi friends!

It’s a beautiful Saturday morning here is San Francisco. I just vacuumed, mopped, and now waiting for my laundry. I have roughly 45 minutes before yoga, and I’m busy for the rest of today. I have 2 self-care appointments in Noe Valley, and I’ll be running to Chinatown to catch a live podcast with a friend, then I’m going to grab drinks in Mission with another friend after dinner. Booked and busy is the theme. Thankfully these are all nourishing activities and not obligations, so although I’ll still have to plan my day out and basically run around the city, at least I chose to do these things!

Work has been taking up a lot of my time. I’m expanding my career, so I’m doing a lot of career-related things outside of my 9-5. I’m going to networking events during the week, planning and hosting events in the community I’m in, while trying to maintain my life admin and weekly workouts. I basically have a new routine now to accommodate all these changes, and tbh, it’s been a bit of a struggle to balance my personal life and career. I’m trying to be kind and patient with myself, because change is hard, but I’m still managing my responsibilities to my best ability. But with that comes less room for play, and maybe the reason why I feel “blah” comes from not prioritizing play, which is what this podcast is to me.

I plan to sort out my new routine to make sure there is time for filming and editing. But in the mean time, I’m going to enjoy this sunny weather as much as I can before starting Season 3.

With love, Remey

An honest conversation about friendship in your 30's

Levi & Leah

This was the first video I watched by Levi & Leah. In this video, they discussed their reality of their friendships as a married couple in their 30’s. I’m seeing a lot of similar themes around friendships for lots of people around my age, regardless if they’re partnered or single, with or without child/children. The fact that we’re all tired, that there’s so little time, and so many responsibilities, make friendships at this age so much more challenging. I think it has something to do with your 30’s being the “transition phase” between your youth and your adult self. It’s an interesting conversation, and I’m resonating with what Levi and Leah are saying as I’m navigating my adult self.

Culture

free community events

Luma

Now that I’m in my 30’s and exiting my nightlife phase, I’ve been going to community events that occur during daytime. Community events are usually very purpose-driven, which means it’s easier to meet people who share similar interests. I’ve had success meeting new friends at workshops and events where we were all learning something new or working on our passions. If you’re in a place where you want to expand your social circle, I highly recommend attending events where you are required to interact with other participants beyond small talks. It’s much easier to follow-up and continue building the connection when you have to work on something together.

Fashion

layering poplin or oxford shirts

Did you know “poplin shirts” and “Oxford shirts” are two different types of button-down? I did not until very recently! Apparently, poplin shirts are made with crisp fabric and are meant for formal occasions, while Oxford shirts are softer and therefore give off a more casual vibe.

Anyway, I saw @rubenbranches, a fashion content creator on IG, layered 2 oxford shirts and was OBSESSED! I’ve mentioned this in Remey’s Inspirations 05 but I love love love mixing masculine and feminine pieces. This look is such a great way to refresh the oxford shirts I have in my closet, while also keeping me warm in chilly SF!

Music

Phóng Zìn Zìn

Low G x tlinh

tlinh is a Vietnamese RnB-Pop artist who blew up from Rap Viet - the first rap competition in Vietnam. She started her career as a dancer, and pivoted to being a singer/rapper, so her performance is definitely top tier. She has a rather sweet and high-pitched voice for RnB, but it fits the girlish, sassy vibes that I see younger RnB artists are going for. I think she has the star power, and based on her recent collab with Malaysian artist SonaOne, I hope she can expand overseas. I’d love to see her on a track with Thuỷ one day!

Do you change your routine often? If yes, how do you motivate yourself to stick to your new routine? If no, how did you find a routine that works for you?
