Remey’s Inspirations 13

A rare photo of yours truly out in nature

Hi friends!

It’s another cloudy day in SF. Perfect weather for a true crime doc if you ask me. It’s also the end of April? WTF??? How are we almost halfway through the year already??

I’ve got 2-3 side projects going on, including the podcast rebrand, so it’s a bit hectic right now. I keep reminding myself that the other projects will wrap by early June, which is not too far from now. I haven’t scheduled any vacation time so I would love to travel later this year.

I’m learning that as much as I enjoy routines, I cannot live a routined life for too long before I need a change. In my ideal world, I would love to live in one place for 8-9 months, and spend the rest of the year in a different place. I don’t know what kind of job would allow me to do that, and spending money on housing for both places would be crazy. But I hope to experience that one day. I think the rich calls that “summer” or “winter” somewhere, like “I summered in the Hamptons”. Well, I would love to winter in Southeast Asia or by the beach lol.

Anyway, until that day arrives, here are my inspos this week.

With love,

Remey

Content

Back when I was still watching makeup tutorials on YouTube, Violette’s videos truly stood out to me compared to her competitions. In the sea of similar formats of people doing tutorials in perfect studio lighting, she does her makeup in cafes with natural lighting and un-rehearsed dialogues. Her videos truly captured the essence of her personal - and now product - brand: effortless routines, simple tools (sometimes no tools), and playful colors. In this interview, she shared the process behind her building her brand, and the importance of storytelling and staying true to yourself in order to differentiate your products from the market.

Culture

go touch some grass!

I haven’t paid attention to what’s going in media these days. Been spending most of my time working and working some more so when I do have free time, I’d rather go outside or do something completely offline. Here’s a rare selfie of me contemplating on my to-do list and calendar for the next months. I guess my cultural (?) recommendation this week is not to be like me and to go touch some grass!

Fashion

polka dot midi skirt

Revolve

I think polka dot is having a moment this Spring. It’s such a classic pattern that it could be a closet staple for Spring/Summer. I love how comfy and breezy a midi skirt is, and with the right material and color combo, you can easily dress it up or down. I found a very cute pastel blue and white silky midi skirt at Ross recently, and I can’t wait to wear it out!

Music

Chilly weather calls for slow, sentimental music. This song makes me feel nostalgic for Southern California. I spent some brief times living in Latin neighborhoods during my time there, and I’d always hear bolero playing at grocery stores and bodegas. It’s a sweet reminder of how much time has passed and how the communities I came across throughout my nomadic life have shaped me into who I am today.

Write me a note below!

Which song(s) bring you back to a simpler time of your life?
